The Toddler program for children 18 to 36 months is characterized by a carefully
prepared learning environment designed to cater to the unique developmental needs of toddlers. Inspired by the educational philosophy of Maria Montessori, the classroom encourages hands-on exploration, independence, and self-directed learning.
The space is equipped with age-appropriate materials and furniture, promoting language, music, art, practical life and fine motor skill development. The classroom fosters a sense of order and routine, allowing toddlers to develop a sense of autonomy and responsibility
At KMS, trained Montessori educators guide the children in their activities, meeting the children where they are and allowing the child to be drawn to the activities. The focus is on cultivating a love for learning, fostering independence, and laying the foundation for future academic and social success.
Sensorimotor work integrates gross and fine motor with the development of sensory perception allowing the child to refine the senses and movements. This work might include sorting and matching and exploring size and quantity.
Language is immersed throughout our language-rich Montessori environment through activities that encourage verbal expression and enhance vocabulary development and pre-literacy skills.
Art and music in a toddler environment focuses on fostering creativity and self-expression through hands-on activities that explore various materials and enhance sensory development while promoting a love for the arts.
“There is in the child a special kind of sensitivity which leads him to absorb everything about him and it is this work of observing and absorbing that alone enables him to adapt himself to life. He does it in virtue of an unconscious power that exists in childhood… The first period of the child’s life is one of adaptation.”
